one-sentence creative tips.
Day 8 of 30 — Public Thoughts
Came across this post from Josh Spector today…
40 One-Sentence Creativity Tips
Out of the 40, here are my top 5 (plus some thoughts)…
2. Creativity is the art of turning nothing into something./
- I like this view. Makes something abstract, just a little more tangible.
4. Constraints enable creativity – if I give you a blank piece of paper and tell you to draw a cat, it’s easier than if I just tell you to draw “something.”/
- THIS. RIGHT. HERE. Is yet another reason I love 30 day challenges (or whatever number)… the time constraint leads to MORE output not less.
6. The more you create, the more likely you are to create something great./
- How does it go? Quality wins, but quantity leads to quality. Also, I’ve noticed you can have great taste… but the skill to make something great is lacking… so it just takes reps for skill to match taste.
24. When you’re not sure what to do next, force yourself to write a list of 50 things you could do next./
- A couple years ago I started doing this with lists of 20 (apparently have to step my game up to 50), and it’s unbelievable how many new ways you find of thinking about something when you force yourself to just get MORE ideas out.
40. It doesn’t matter if these tips are the “best” I could have created or not – what matters is that I created them./
- Easy to pass judgement on a piece of work, escpecially you’re own.
